Joe Kelly, from Cheltenham, played the game for 35 hours, 35 minutes, and 35 seconds, raising $2,756.97 for cancer research.
The previous record, 24 hours 10 minutes, was set by Martin Fornleitner in Austria in 2011.
Mr. Kelly, who runs a film company, has been playing Minecraft since pre-development in 2010, but usually only plays for a couple of hours a week.
Physical Conditions From His Marathon
"Staying awake wasn't too bad - I did the whole thing without any caffeine."
"There were no stimulants other than sugar and stubbornness," he said.
Mr. Kelly live streamed the entire game on Youtube.
He also added that the stunt added a great toll on his fingers.
"My shoulders didn't ache, my back didn't ache - the worst thing was my fingers."
"They hurt so much just from holding the keyboard and mouse and being clinched in position for a long time."
"Every little break I got was flexing my fingers."
Getting Recognized
Kelly hopes his attempt gets him recognized, as it clearly surpasses the previous record of 24 hours 10 minutes by Martin Fortleitner.Mr. Kelly is now in the process of sending off the footage to the Guinness World Record Book to be credited.
But he has no intention of taking a break from the game.
